The day before the race sets the foundation for success! Your body is a machine. On the eve of a marathon, you want to ensure that it is ready to run. You must prepare with the proper diet, relaxation, planning and anxiety management.

I am Franck Simo, proud recipient of the Barbara Aaron Triangle Award in 2011. I am from the 2012 Senior Class of South Lakes High School and currently studying at Wheeling Jesuit University, located in Wheeling, WV.
I moved to the US in 2008 from Cameroon (West Africa) to live with my mother and to most of all, cease the opportunity that this country has offered throughout its history to immigrants that want to better their lives. That opportunity for me has been to obtain a good education and to freely enjoy the fruit of my labor and as of today, I am still working towards that goal.

I knew that there would be awards, a guest list full of YMCA Who’s Who, and I certainly knew there would be food… but the energy that was quite unexpected was palpable camaraderie.
On October 23rd, the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington hosted its 161st Annual Meeting, an evening set aside to reflect on the year and celebrate the volunteers, partners and staff who helped sustain and advance the mission.

The YMCA Reston’s first Trunk or Treat event held last October 30th was a fine illustration of the strong, healthy community it has built through its 14 years. Over 120 costumed children with their families participated in the festivities orchestrated ingeniously by the Y staff led by Youth Development team leaders Kristy Atanackovic, Kiara Holloman, Liz Magyar and Corie Powers.

Our Annual Meeting on October 23, 2014 was more than just an awards celebration… we also passed the gavel on to our new Board Chair Keith Smith! Keith brings over 30 years of public affairs experience as a Managing Director at Prime Policy Group, but his passion has been vested in the Y’s mission since childhood. Since the days his father ran an independent Y in Alabama, “I have seen this organization change lives and mold the character of young men and women, including my own,” he shares. Keith has volunteered for the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington since 1985, serving on branch Boards and now as association Board Chair. As Keith was handed the gavel in front of over 210 guests, he added: “Thank you for this opportunity. It honors my father that you let me volunteer in this meaningful way.”
